Welcome to Innovator 10

The Innovator/10 awards promise to be the most prestigious yet with finalists being joined by over 200 of Yorkshire and Humber's leading businesses. Also joining us, to celebrate the outstanding achievements in innovation, will be our guest speaker on the evening Tim Smit, Founder of the Eden Project.

Tim Smit is known the world over as co-founder and Chief Executive of the award winning Eden Project. Eden began as a dream in 1995 and opened its doors just five years later - greeted by much of the press as 'the eighth wonder of the world'. Since then more than nine million visitors have come to enjoy a once sterile pit turned into a cradle of life. It is both a showcase for world-class horticulture and a startling architectural symbol of human endeavor.

Tim Smith on the awards: "Innovation is the lifeblood of our civilisation. We are living through a time in history where for the first time nature rather than man is setting a deadline. Innovation will be utterly crucial in turning the threat of climate change into a wellspring of opportunity. It is now that society and business must celebrate the innovator, the change maker and the experimenter and the fear of failure needs to be replaced by the pirate grin of the daredevil if we are not to become a nation of suburban mediocrities reduced to conversations about house prices as the world goes to hell in a handcart. I am delighted to be associated with these awards and hope the bravery of the entrants is matched by the far sightedness of the judges!"
